Ty’s 18th birthday gift was to go to the Deadmau5 concert in Chicago. Tyler, his friend Aamon and myself headed off to Chicago last Saturday. My sister was kind enough to treat us with a meal and a custom cake made by my niece. She created a cake that was in the form of the Deadmau5 head. BEST CAKE EVER! We left the my sister’s full of spaghetti and cake and headed for the hotel.
After checking into the hotel, it was time to prep for the 6 hour event. The boys energized their bodies with Redbull, Twinkies and assorted junk food.
A quick and convenient cab ride put us in front of the sold out show at the Congress Theater. The line was short and moved fast. The boys presented their tickets, flashed ID’s and made it through an aggressive and thorough security search. In the main lobby the boys made a b-line to purchase concert shirts. Amazingly, the main act, Joel Zimmerman (AKA Deadmau5), was there signing autographs. Ty had his phone signed and Aamon had his ticket signed.
We sat in the balcony for the first two acts and then moved to the main floor for Deadmau5. The show was an engaging display of light and sound. It was pretty cool to actually FEEL the music. A breeze coming off the sub-woofers was an unexpected benefit of standing on the floor in front of the stage. We had a blast and the video below is a small taste of what we saw. The video was shot with my phone so forgive the quality.
